One of my favourite books is “The Shadow of the Wind” (A Sombra do Vento). It is the only book I have read more than once. I finally discovered what happens to the characters and closed the cycle, which felt a little bittersweet. On one hand, it is good because understanding the path the characters take makes it possible to tie up loose ends. On the other hand, it is a bit disappointing because in some cases I feel that some aspects could have been explored more.
I can’t say much about the story, but I don’t agree with the author when he says that the books can be read separately. I think that if someone does that, they will feel like they are missing some “puzzle pieces”.
In this book, the author creates another plot with new characters who are connected to the old ones, and through them we discover many of the answers we were looking for. It also addresses some sensitive themes such as death, betrayal, and mental illness. It shows real people, with both good and bad qualities, who often have to face situations they never imagined and must do the best they can with what they know.
I am still missing “The Prisoner of Heaven” (O Prisioneiro do Céu). When I finally get that book, I will probably read all the books in this tetralogy again. I think I will have a completely different experience compared to this time, when I read them with long gaps between each book.
This book brought out many different feelings in me: compassion, pity, anger, sadness, and empathy. These are some of the sentences that impacted me the most:

Hope is nothing more than the faith that this moment has not yet arrived, that we will be able to recognize our true destiny when it comes near us and jump aboard before the chance to be ourselves fades forever and condemns us to live in emptiness, longing for what should have been but never was.

“The Labyrinth of the Spirits” (O Labirinto dos Espíritos) is the last book of the tetralogy. Since I have not read the third volume yet, I feel like I missed some parts needed to fully connect the whole narrative.
Um dos meus livros preferidos é “A Sombra do Vento”. É um dos poucos livros que reli. Saber finalmente o que foi feito destas personagens e como “acabam” é como o fechar de um ciclo um pouco agridoce. Por um lado, é bom porque percebo o rumo que as suas vidas tomaram e foi possível atar algumas pontas soltas que ficaram ao longo dos livros. Por outro, é mau porque em alguns casos senti que ainda faltou explorar mais alguns aspetos.
Não posso dizer muito em relação à história, apenas que não concordo quando o autor diz que os livros desta tetralogia podem ser lidos de forma independente. Acho que se o fizerem, vão ficar a faltar “peças do puzzle”.
Neste livro o autor criou mais uma trama que traz novas personagens, que estão relacionadas com as antigas e que trazem muitas das respostas que queremos. Aborda também temas que podem não ser do agrado de todos, morte, traição, doenças mentais… Mostra pessoas reais, que têm coisas boas e coisas más e que muitas vezes têm de enfrentar situações que nunca pensaram da melhor forma que sabem.
Falta-me ler “O Prisioneiro do Céu”, provavelmente quando o tiver vou ler de novo toda a tetralogia. E sinto que vou ter um sentimento totalmente diferente do que tive ao lê-los com espaçamento.
Este livro fez-me ter vários sentimentos diferentes, compaixão, pena, raiva, tristeza, empatia…e estas foram algumas das frases que me impactaram:

A esperança não é mais do que a fé em que esse momento não tenha ainda chegado, que consigamos ver o nosso verdadeiro destino quando se aproximar de nós e saltar para bordo antes que a oportunidade de sermos nós mesmos se desvaneça para sempre e nos condene a viver de vazio, com saudades do que devia ter sido e nunca foi.
A dor mais sincera vive-se a sós.
“O Labirinto dos Espíritos” é o último livro da tetralogia do Cemitério dos Livros Esquecidos. Como ainda não li o terceiro volume, acho que por isso me fez sentir que faltavam algumas partes para encaixar toda a narrativa.

Tornou-se uma das maiores revelações literárias com “A Sombra do Vento” lançado em 2001, o seu primeiro romance para adultos. Em 1993 ganhou o Prémio Edebé com o livro “O Príncipe da Neblina” e em 2006 o prémio Corrente d’escritas com o livro “A Sombra do Vento”.
